Rector’s Sarıkamış Martyrs Memorial Message in the 100th Year

A catastrophic pitched battle ‘Sarıkamış Operation’ in the history of warfare is a bravery legend that our 90.000 soldiers freezed to death as well as making a stand against the enemy and poverty for the sake of their country.

During the Ottoman-Russia War having started in December 22, 1914 and ended in January 5, 1915, 90.000 Turkish soldiers willingly sacrificed their lives for the sake of national struggle in the Mount Allahuekber in the district of Sarıkamış in Kars.

Our soldiers never think of giving the fight up for their country even though they know the truth of great losses and they never hide behind any excuse and they shield themselves  against those who mean to independence of the country.

Walking arm in arm to the death in the freezing cold and snowstorm, our soldiers give the message of unity and brotherhood in Sarıkamış Operation, as well.

With these feelings and thoughts, I gratefully and respectfully commemorate our hero martyrs who die for their land and take place in golden pages of Turkish history with the occasion of 100th anniversary of Sarıkamış Operation.
