The first donation to Turkish Museum of Aquatic Creatures is from our University

Our university has made the first donation to Turkish Museum of Aquatic Creatures which was founded within the scope of the protocol signed between Süleyman Demirel University and Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs GeneralDirectorate of Water Management in an attempt to provide scientists with the samples of aquatic creatures, a biological richness of Turkey, as a museum material and researchers who are studying on aquatic fauna and flora with material support and to protect the biological richness of Turkey.

Within the scope of academic studies carried out in Zoology Laboratory of the Department of Biology Faculty of Science and Letters since 2006, there are over 5000 aquatic insects collected during field studies in our country and diagnosed and around 2000 samples of aquatic insects. Our university is the first university and public institution to donate samples to the museum by donating around 1000 diagnosed aquatic insects for the scientific inventory of the museum.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Salur from the Department of Biology Faculty of Science and Letters states that our university has been carrying out academic studies about aquatic creatures for 8 years. He says, “We decided to donate thousands of samples in order to guarantee their future and constitute infrastructure of the museum which is first in Turkey in this manner. We will go on to make donations in the following years. We will probably have donated 50 thousand samples to the museum in 5 years.” Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Salur informed that our Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan provided a great support in donating to Turkish Museum of Aquatic Creatures.
