40 Bicycles to Our University within Healthy Nutrition and Active Life Program of Turkey

Within the framework of Healthy Nutrition and Active Life Program of Turkey, 40 bicycles were given to our University by the Ministry of Health with the aim of promoting physical activities and developing physical activity opportunities in our University.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, Public Hospitals Union Secretary General Specialist Dr. Ömer Sobacı, Provincial Health Director Dr. İsmail Yücel, Head of Çorum Public Health Center Dr. Ahmet Barış, academic staff and students of our university attended the ceremony held in front of Rectorate building.

Dr. Ahmet Barış, Head of Çorum Public Health Center said, ‘Urbanization has made people do sports in indoor halls causing them to lose touch with nature. Universities are supposed to provide transportation, accommodation, sports, and health functions along with education. I would like to congratulate our Rector who is planning bicycle roads in the campus for his awareness.’ Besides, he thanked all those who contributed.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan stated, ‘The primary purpose of our university is to conduct educational activities. Furthermore, we believe that the universities should serve as models in every field in the society. We have planned 6 km bicycle road in North Campus. Studies have been going on to be certificated as green campus. We generate our own electricity, and meet our heating and cooling needs.  We make our projects taking the following 50-100 years into consideration. The bicycle regulation was made last week. We made the master plan of North Campus 2 or 3 years ago and planned bicycle road.’

Emphasizing that our University have responsibility for this issue, Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan thanked all those who contributed to the project.
