Press Meeting for 2016 World Universities Wrestling Championship

Hitit University is making preparations for 2016 World Universities Wrestling Championship. Hitit University hosts 12th World Universities Wrestling Championship in Çorum.

In the press meeting held in the rectorate building, the director of Hitit University Physical Education and Sports School, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faruk Yamaner says that 800 athletes from 34 countries will participate in the championship and this activity will provide important contributions to Çorum. He tells preparatory works for the championship which will be held in October 24-29, 2016.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faruk Yamaner says ‘Çorum will make history with this championship and we believe that we will bring many international organizations to the province and the university through this championship.’

Yamaner explains the championship will be held in new sports hall which is under construction in North Campus of Hitit University and the hall which is nearly 18 million Turkish Lira worth will be completed in May or June, 2016. He says that the construction of the sports hall will be finalised before the championship and it will be one of 10 biggest sports hall of Turkey.

‘Competitions will be held in three categories including graeco-roman, free and women and approximately 800 athletes from 34 countries are expected to participate in the championship. After the world championship, Çorum will host European Championship in 2017.’ Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faruk Yamaner says.

After the explanations about the championship, the director of Physical Education and Sports School, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faruk Yamaner and General Secretary of Hitit University Erdal Kanık introduces the sports hall under construction to the press.
