Press Conference for 12th World University Wrestling Championship to be hosted by our university between the dates of 25-30 October 2016 was held. Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, Director of Physical Education and Sports School Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faruk Yamaner, Secretary General Erdal Kanık and academic staff from Physical Education and Sports School Asst. Prof. Dr. Erkan Demirkan attended the conference.
Sharing information about the championship, Director of Physical Education and Sports School Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faruk Yamaner stated that the first championship was held in İstanbul in 1968 and in Ankara in 1998, 12th championship will be hosted by our university and said, “University Wrestling Championship will be organized in our country after 18 years. I believe that we will complete the championship successfully with your contributions and active participation. We are endeavoring to bring similar events to our university and city with the support of our Rector.” Providing technical knowledge about the organization, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yamaner stated that the championship will begin with 30 countries and over 360 athletes including trainers will attend, and added that there will be final competitions in every day of the championship which will begin on 25 October 2016.

“As you may know, 12th World University Wrestling Championship is an issue for which we have made great effort since 2013 and we got it as a result of our splendid attempts together with Director of Physical Education and Sports School Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faruk Yamaner. The supports of Prof. Dr. Kemal Tamer, Head of Turkish University Sports Federation lead to getting the championship.
“We have serious responsibilities on this issue. The event is being conducted especially by the academic staff of Physical Education and Sports School, Secretary General Erdal Kanık, Head of Press and Public Relations Office İsmail Eker and numerous individuals. The sponsorships of our Governorate, Municipality and ÇTSO are of vital importance, as well. All these together will accomplish an event which will contribute a lot to the city.”
Rector Prof. Dr. Alkan, “Our city occupies an important position on wrestling.”
Stating that our city occupies an important position on wrestling, Rector Prof. Dr. Alkan said, “Holding such an event enabling our ancestor sport wrestling to be performed professionally in our city is of great importance for us. Our university hosts numerous events each week. Futsal 2017 will be hosted by hosted by us and endeavoring to hold another event in 2018.”

Emphasizing that universities are supposed to contribute their cities in all manners, Rector Prof. Dr. Alkan said, “As Hitit University, we bring quality development into prominence. We attach great importance to quality development besides quantitative development. The university model in my mind is a university contributing a lot to its city and region, providing development in intellectual, economic, cultural, sportive and plastic arts.”

Stating that all the works were carried out in Ankara, İstanbul and international arena personally and 70 km2 campus site has reached 2700 km2, Rector Prof. Dr. Alkan said, “We have around 18000 students and almost 200 programs. University is an everlasting process if you wish working. We try to make contribution to Çorum in all manners with HİTİTSEM courses, HÜBTUAM studies, Aquaculture and Water Sports Research and Application Center in Obruk Dam. Medicine Faculty will begin education in 2017-2018 academic year with its almost 90 teaching staff. We work synergistically together with our Governor, MPs, Mayor, ÇTSO Head, CSO and all the dynamics of the city. The students pay attention not only to the classes of the university but also to the opportunities of the city. I would like to thank those who contributed to the championship and dear press members for contributions.” and he wished that the championship would be completed successfully for our University, city and country.
After the press conference, Rector Prof. Dr. Alkan visited the sports hall in which the championship will be held with accompanying committee and press members.
