Program on ‘Woman in the Academy’ to which Vice President of the Higher Education Quality Council Prof. Dr. Tuncay DÖĞEROĞLU participated as speaker was organized in Rectorate Conference Hall. Our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nurcan Baykam, many academic and administrative staff and guests attended as well.
Prof. Dr. Tuncay Döğeroğlu focused on the problems of the women in the academy and solutions during the program. Prof. Dr. Döğeroğlu stated that there were remarkable steps regarding women academicians in Higher Education Council.
Sharing information about the gender distribution of the students in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Döğeroğlu said that Turkey had a good level in terms of academic life by stating that Health Sciences had the most female students with 60% ratio, Engineering Faculty had the least female students with 35% ratio and the ratio changed between 30% - 50%.
“To take some steps is necessary. It is hard to change the culture. Creating awareness and forming legal arrangements were of great importance.” continued Prof. Dr. Döğeroğlu and she thanked to those who contributed to the program.
