Panel on “The Future of Democracy in the Middle East”

Panel on “The Future of Democracy in the Middle East” was organized with the cooperation of our university and University Active Youth (ÜNİAK) with the attendance of Prof. Dr. Yasin Aktay in our University Rectorate Conference Hall.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, Çorum MP Lütfiye İlksen Ceritoğlu, AK Party Provincial Vice Presidents Şeyda Önen and Adem Candan, Central District Vice President Ayhan Poyraz, and our academic staff, administrative staff and students attended the panel.

Emphasizing the development in the number and quality of the universities, Prof. Dr. Yasin Aktay said, “There were 28 universities in 1985. Now we have 195 universities, one university in each city. Our universities have turned into international universities embracing all people. The contribution of the universities to the city is an undeniable fact and the increase in education budget is obvious.”

Touching the issue Arab Spring and the attitude of Western countries in a critical way, Prof. Dr. Aktay added that the countries which put importance on democracy and human rights allegedly do not support Arab countries in their democracy process.

The panel on “The Future of Democracy in the Middle East” ended up with the question part and the presentation of plaque.
