Waste Sorting in our University

Our university, which adopts as a target and principle to work in order to ensure the provision and supply of necessary conditions and resources about humanity and environment sensitively, continues its studies carried out in this direction with the slogan "Target Zero Waste".

In this context, an information meeting on "Waste Management Process" and "Zero Waste Target" which is being carried out in our University on 5 June World Environment Day was held.

The meeting was held at Erol Olçok Conference Hall. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nurcan Baykam, our Deans, our principals, the managers of our units and the relevant academic and administrative staff participated.

Our Rector who made the opening speech of the program said, "I strongly believe that our university should be the pioneer in this field where all the fields are being used as universities and that it should undertake the role of a locomotive. We started to see the results of the works we have done before, to be able to come out to the public with nice projects and to be an honor on behalf of our university and our city ".

By changing the consumption habits and needs of the world, Rector says that it is an important problem in the world regarding waste. Dr. Alkan said that more than 2.1 billion tons of waste are generated every year in the world and that these wastes contain 4.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent energy as energy, emphasizing that the amount of energy is in the level that can cover 10% of world electricity consumption.

Our Rector Professor Dr. Alkan indicating that in our country, this situation has been taken seriously and the amount of waste reaching a figure of TL 1.5 billion annually said, "It is possible to say that waste management is very important in terms of environmental sensitivity and new expectations brought by the needs of the world every day and it is no longer a necessity but an obligation. In this sense, the "Zero Waste Project", which the Ministry of Environment and Urbanism introduced shortly before, came to our agenda. In this regard, the output of the Social Complex of Presidency, which was initiated by Emine Erdoğan, the wife of the President of the Republic of Turkey, and the projects in the Ministry of Environment and Urbanism have achieved serious outputs with zero waste target. The Zero Waste Project is a beautiful project initiated in terms of prevention of wastage, effective and correct use of resources, separation of waste as much as possible, environmental sensitivity and economic value conversion. We have a process that has been wrapped in a professional sense of humility since the year we passed this issue. "

Our Rector, who draws attention to other studies carried out in our university pointed out that our university produced his own bread, which he had built long before the compulsory date of the EDMS, and that the waste of paper and the waste of time with PPS System prevented the waste of time, "we have started our work on collection of toners. To reduce the use of fluorescent lamps containing mercury and similar materials, LED bulbs were used. We are about to complete a project to strengthen textile materials called bims. Many buildings, especially the urban transformation, are being demolished and the materials that are emerging there are being thrown away as rubble. We grind them and transform limestone-based cement into a cement. We are doing resistant asphalt tests from rubber and similar materials. They are proud to develop on behalf of the University, "he said, thanking everyone who worked on the work.
