Message from our Department Head on World Nurses' Day

The theme chosen by the International Council of Nurses for 2026 emphasizes the transformative power of nurses in health systems, their leadership role, and their indispensable place in public health. This theme shows us once again that nursing is not only a profession that provides care; it is also a powerful professional discipline that produces science, directs technology, shapes health policies, and protects human dignity.

Today, the world faces multifaceted problems such as wars, disasters, epidemics, climate change, an aging population, mental health problems, and inequalities in access to healthcare. In such a complex period, nurses continue to be representatives of hope, trust, and healing power, not only in hospitals but in every area of society.

Today, we bear the responsibility of training nurses who, following the path of modern civilization drawn by Atatürk in the light of reason and science, prioritize human life, adhere to ethical values, and can think scientifically. Because nursing is not only a profession; it is a great responsibility dedicated to human dignity, life, and the well-being of society.

In a mother's first breath, in a newborn's struggle for life, in the loneliness of an elderly individual, in the management of chronic illness, in disaster areas, in intensive care units, and in the protection of public health, nurses serve humanity silently but powerfully.

Dear students,

You are not only future healthcare professionals; you are also scientists, educators, researchers, and leaders who will shape human lives. You will become a true nurse when you integrate your profession not only with technical knowledge but also with ethical values, empathy, communication, and love for humanity.

Today, the nursing profession is no longer limited to clinical practice. Artificial intelligence, digital health technologies, simulation systems, robotic applications, and data-driven healthcare services are reshaping nursing care. However, no matter how advanced technology becomes, the compassion that holds a patient's hand, the sensitivity that understands a mother's anxiety, and the human touch that instills hope will always be at the heart of nursing.

We, as the Faculty of Health Sciences at Hitit University; We consider it our fundamental responsibility to train nurses who can think scientifically, possess a critical perspective, adhere to ethical values, research, produce, and lead society. Because we know that strong nursing means a strong society.

On this meaningful day, I wholeheartedly congratulate all our nurses and nursing students who work selflessly day and night on International Nurses Day. I remember with respect, gratitude, and reverence all nurses who have contributed to our profession, especially Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing; and also Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Republic.
