Prof. Dr. Nurcan BAYKAM was born in 1965 in Kayseri. He completed his primary education in Kayseri and his secondary and high school education at TED Ankara College. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Ankara University, in 1989. After completing his compulsory service at Uşak State Hospital, he began his residency in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital in 1991. Upon completing his specialization in 1995, he continued to work at the same clinic as a Chief Assistant.
In 1999, he conducted studies on HIV/AIDS clinical and molecular diagnostic tests at the University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences and UPMC in the United States. From 2002, he served as Deputy President at the Refik Saydam National Public Health Institute for one and a half years. He became an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology in 2005.
In 2008, he was appointed Deputy Chief at the same clinic at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital, where he served as a Training Supervisor until June 2, 2014, when he was appointed as a Professor at Hitit University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology.
He has numerous national and international publications, conference presentations, and book chapters in his field, particularly on viral hepatitis, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, brucellosis, HIV/AIDS, hospital infections, and antibiotic resistance.
