The Department of Coaching Education at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Hittite University, hosted a visit by an evaluation team between 12 and 14 April 2026 as part of the evaluation process conducted by the Council for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Sports Sciences Education Programmes (SPORAK). The visit provided an opportunity to comprehensively assess the department’s educational and teaching activities, quality assurance, academic structure and physical infrastructure.
The Department of Coaching Education at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Hittite University, hosted a significant process as part of its accreditation efforts, which are conducted in line with a quality-focused approach to development. An evaluation team appointed by the Sports Sciences Education Programmes Evaluation and Accreditation Board (SPORAK), which operates under the Sports Sciences Association, conducted a site visit to our department between 12 and 14 April 2026. The visit marked a crucial stage in the comprehensive assessment of the department’s current structure and the on-site examination of its quality assurance system.
During this visit, carried out as part of the SPORAK evaluation process, the department’s academic and administrative operations, teaching and learning activities, quality initiatives, stakeholder engagement and physical facilities were comprehensively addressed. As part of the evaluation, meetings were held with faculty and department management, whilst the views of academic staff, administrative staff, students, alumni and external stakeholders were also sought. In this way, the programme was assessed not only in terms of its formal and structural aspects, but also in terms of its practical functioning and its reception among stakeholders, through a holistic approach.
During the visit, the institutional organisation of the Department of Coaching Education, its teaching processes, quality assurance mechanisms and approach to continuous improvement were examined in detail. In addition, the department’s learning environments, practical training facilities, archives, support services and learning resources were also included in the scope of the evaluation. In this respect, the process contributed to the review of both the department’s academic quality and its educational environments in accordance with specific criteria.
One of the key aspects of the evaluation visit was the adoption of a participatory and multi-stakeholder approach. Discussions held with various groups, ranging from students to graduates, and from external stakeholders to administrative staff, enabled the identification of the programme’s strengths and the more effective determination of areas for improvement. This demonstrates that the quality initiatives undertaken in our department are not limited to documents and reports alone, but are instead approached as a dynamic process shaped by the contributions of all stakeholders.
The accreditation process is of great importance in terms of strengthening a culture of quality in higher education, the continuous improvement of educational programmes, and the systematic pursuit of institutional development. In this context, the SPORAK visit constituted an extremely valuable stage in assessing the expertise, academic competence and development vision of our Department of Coaching Education.
As the Department of Coaching Education at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Hitit University, we are following this process with great responsibility and diligence, in line with our objectives of enhancing educational quality, strengthening institutional capacity, and providing our students with a more high-quality learning environment. We believe that the visit conducted by the SPORAK evaluation team will yield significant outcomes that will contribute to the development of our department; we would like to thank all our academic and administrative staff, our students, our alumni, and our external stakeholders for their contributions to this process.
