Hitit University Vocational School of Social Sciences, Department of Marketing and Advertising, Media and Communication Program faculty members and students visited the newspapers Çorum Haber, Çorum Hakimiyet, and Çorum Kesin Karar on January 10, Working Journalists’ Day, to celebrate the special occasion with press workers in Çorum.

During the visit, aimed at emphasizing the critical role of journalism in providing the public with accurate, impartial, and timely information, students presented carnations to journalists and conveyed their best wishes. In a warm and sincere atmosphere, discussions focused on the responsibility of journalists in safeguarding society’s right to information and the importance of the profession in democratic societies.

Students had the opportunity to observe the news production process firsthand, gaining insights into the functioning of local press, news writing processes, editorial decision-making, the impact of digitalization on journalism, and the opportunities and challenges the profession faces today.

As part of the program, students met with Çorum Haber General Manager and experienced journalist Mehmet Yolyapar, Çorum Hakimiyet Editor-in-Chief Mustafa Burak Yalçın, and Çorum Kesin Karar Editor-in-Chief Ayhan Aykanat. The journalists shared their professional experiences and answered students’ questions on topics ranging from news preparation and ethical principles to field reporting and new media practices.

The visit not only reinforced students’ theoretical knowledge but also allowed them to engage directly with industry professionals, helping them better understand the dynamics of the profession. Real-life experiences shared by journalists provided valuable guidance for students’ career planning, while also enhancing their communication skills and awareness of industry expectations.

Such sectoral meetings, which highlight the importance of practical education, were noted to increase students’ professional awareness, bridge theory with practice, and strengthen university-industry collaboration.

Faculty members Lecturer Ali Aşır and Lecturer Gökhan Şenyurt also joined the visit, celebrating Working Journalists’ Day together with the press workers. The event concluded with commemorative photos and well wishes.
