A significant meeting was held by the Hitit University Technology Transfer Office (TTO) to evaluate the current status of the regional industry and its adaptation process within the scope of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which entered its financial obligation phase as of January 1, 2026. In this context, a meeting was held with Berat Batuhan Kaplangı, CEO of Emissary Environmental Technologies and Software Inc., and the company's co-founder, Mehmetali Andaç Beylikçi.
During the meeting, the potential technical and economic impacts that manufacturing and export-oriented firms in our region might face during the CBAM compliance process were discussed. The possible cost pressures of CBAM on industrial establishments, reporting obligations, and its effects on competitiveness were evaluated in detail.
It was specifically emphasized that firms failing to adapt to the process in a timely and technically accurate manner could face risks such as increased financial burdens, loss of market share, and financial sanctions. Accordingly, the importance of industrialists possessing an accurate, transparent, and sustainable infrastructure regarding carbon footprint calculations and CBAM reporting was highlighted.
As one of the key outcomes of the meeting, it was stated that an effective support mechanism for industrial organizations could be established by combining Hitit University TTO’s academic infrastructure with Emissary’s technical solutions in carbon footprint calculations, CBAM reporting, and digital environmental data management. Through this collaboration, the aim is to contribute to firms managing the CBAM compliance process in a more robust and competitive manner.
