The event titled “Sound Without Borders: Theremin Concert and Talk”, organized in collaboration with the Hitit University Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture Department of Music, Vakıf 19, and the Russian Museum of Music in Ankara, was held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Ethem Erkoç Conference Hall.
The event was attended by Alper Bilan, Chairman of the Board of Vakıf 19; Aliona Palajçenko, Founder of the Russian Museum of Music in Ankara; Deputy Mayor Alper Zahir; Prof. Dr. Ömer Can Satır, Head of the Department of Music; as well as faculty members and students.
The program began with an opening speech by Vakıf 19 Chairman Alper Bilan. Following this, Aliona Palajçenko introduced a short documentary film about the life of Leon Theremin, the inventor of the theremin. After the screening, Russian musician Peter Theremin took the stage and performed a selection of pieces from world music using the electronic instrument theremin.
At the end of the concert, which took place in an explanatory and conversational format, the artist conducted a brief workshop with the audience, demonstrating the theremin’s working principles in a hands-on manner. Participants had the unique opportunity to experience playing this extraordinary instrument.
The event concluded with a presentation of flowers to the young musician Peter Theremin.
