The aim of the Social Services and Counselling programme is to train qualified personnel who will be involved in the services and models provided in various welfare areas, taking into account social justice, the value of the individual and their well-being, in response to the new social conditions and problems arising from changes in the social structure. The programme aims to meet the need for facilitators and support staff in the service interventions implemented by various professional groups, in line with the scope and objectives of the social services offered to our country's citizens.
It is expected that graduates of the programme will be able to participate in work carried out at the individual, group, family, and community levels in various social service areas, in both the public and private sectors, drawing on the principles and approaches required by the knowledge, skills, and values of social work.
Within the Social Work and Counselling programme, students are required to complete a thirty-day summer internship at the end of the second semester. The summer internship aims to enable students to learn through experience the theoretical knowledge they have acquired about social work and counselling services. Within the scope of the programme, students will:
- Acquiring theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Social Services, understanding and being able to apply its activities and functions,
- Mastering national and international concepts used in the service sector, being able to interpret and evaluate current data, and develop quick solutions,
- Possessing effective communication skills,
- The aim is to equip students with the skills to effectively use information and communication technologies.
The Associate Degree Programme in Social Services includes compulsory and elective courses drawn from the disciplines of social policy, social services, psychology, and sociology, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of the social services discipline.
Graduates of the Social Work and Counselling Department's Social Work programme are employed primarily as permanent dormitory management officers affiliated with the Directorate of Credit and Dormitories and in other institutions and organisations, such as official and private hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health, guidance and research centres affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, special education and rehabilitation centres, nurseries and daycare centres, at institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies (provincial/district directorates, nurseries, foster homes, children's homes, care and rehabilitation centres, etc.), at provincial directorates of the Employment Agency (Occupational Code: 3412.05; Occupation Title: Social Services Assistant; Occupation Main Group: Technicians, Technicians and Assistant Professionals)
