Joint Statement from the Council of Higher Education Council and the Council of Universities

The Council of Higher Education (CoHE) and the Council of Universities made a joint statement on Jerusalem. "The decision of the United States to recognize Israel as the capital of the city, Jerusalem, which is the common holy place of mankind, and its embassies to move here, has been a very unfortunate decision in terms of universal peace, especially in regional peace. Kuds-i Sharif, which is the sacred space of the three semi- religious religions; It is an example of humanity as a place where different religions and beliefs live in harmony in the Ottoman period. This sacred area, which historically has a collective living culture, needs more peace than peace everyday. In an environment where the international community, including the United States, accepts that Jerusalem is under occupation; this initiative is highly unacceptable, as it is highly likely to flare up conflicts in the region, disregarding international law, UN decisions taken in the historical process and the sensitivities of countries. The Council of Higher Education and the Higher Education Council call on the world leaders to take a stand on the side of peace, conscience and justice by calling attention to the mistake of this decision taken and calling on the United States to withdraw this wrong decision. We invite all national and international platforms to take a common stance against the decisions and actions that will damage the historical and sacred character of "City of Peace" Jerusalem. Respectfully announced to the public."
