“12th World University Wrestling Championship” held between the dates of 25-30 October 2016 hosted by our university ended up with the closing ceremony.
Our university Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, Vice Mayor Zeki Gül, Turkey University Sports Federation Director Prof. Dr. Kemal Tamer, FISU Vice President Leopold Germain Senghor, our university academic staff and administrative staff, students and Çorum’s people participated in closing ceremony of the championship.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Alkan says in his closing ceremony “I am happy that we have come to a successful end of a great championship which has been performed with the participation of almost 400 athletes from 30 different countries. I would like to share my happiness with you that we could finalise this process starting in 2012 in a nice way in every sense. In my opinion, we start a beginning of a beautiful cooperation which will lead different collaboration not only in the level of university but also in every level of our country. Although the championship lasted 6 days, it was shaped as a result of long preparations.
Above all, I would like to express my gratitude to Turkey University Sports Federation Director Prof. Dr. Kemal Tamer who has contributed too much for holding this event in Çorum which an important place for wrestling. For sure, the valuable contributions of Çorum Governorship, Deputies of Çorum, Çorum Municipality, Provincial Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, Provincial Health Directorate, Çorum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ÇESOB are undeniable in organizing this event and I sincerely thank all of them.”
Our university Rector congratulatorily gave the flag for the 13rd World University Wrestling Championship to Brazil delegates and said “I believe that Brazil will also host a nice championship. We are ready to share all our knowledge and our experience.”
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Alkan saying “I would like to express my gratitude to FISU delegates, referees, technical team, everyone contributing to this great event on behalf of myself, my university, province and country. We hope that we scored a great organization in Turkey. I am in hope that we have organized the best championship among the events in FISU.” completed his speech.
FISU Vice President Leopold Germain Senghor says in his speech “We have attended to a top level wrestling event these days, an event which now comes to the end. Such an event cannot happen without a huge amount of team work, effort and commitment, and we have seen all three in action in the lead-in period to this event and throughout these 6 days. In terms of effort and commitment, we have to thank the Local Organizer in partnership with Turkish University Sport Federation, the United world wrestling and the local authorities of this welcoming city, CORUM, HITIT University and Turkish Republic. But above all, on behalf of FISU, may I congratulate you, the wrestlers and your coaches and managers, on superb, exciting performances throughout these days. I hope you will take away much more than the lessons learned on the court: we have enjoyed a warmth of welcome and friendship here in CORUM which many of us will be sorry to leave behind. I would like to encourage again the participants for their fair play, congratulate the winners of this championship 2016. It is my duty therefore to close this 12th edition of wrestling world university championship, and my pleasure to congratulate all those who have contributed to such a great event, wish you all a safe journey home, and we hope to see many of you in Brazilia in 2018.”
