Introductory Meeting of Anti-addictive Application and Research Center of Our University Held
The informative meeting about our university's Anti-addiction Practice and Research Center was held in the Rectorate Building, Senate Hall.
Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nurcan Baykam and Deputy Directorate of Research and Application Center for Combating Depression Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emrah Karadere as well as the members of the Central Executive Committee Dr. Abdullah Colak, Asst. Prof. Dr. Selen Özakar Akca, Assist. Prof. Dr. Serpil Pekdoğan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ece Yazla Asafov, Assist. Prof. Dr. Özlem Akdoğan and Assist. Prof. Dr. Özlem Demirtaş attended to the meeting.
In the first part of the meeting, our Rector Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, who made evaluations about the Center, said "Addiction Fighting Application and Research Center" has started work on the study. Expressesing his passion for determining the dependencies in society, creating solutions and taking precautions before getting addicted, Dr. Reha Metin Alkan pointed out that addiction is not only limited to tobacco and other substance use today, but said that struggle against different addictions such as mobile phone and social media is also necessary.
Reminding that the Regulation on Combating Dependence Research and Application Center was published in the Official Gazette dated October 21, 2017 and numbered 30217 and entered into force, Dr. Alkan said, "The idea of establishing this center first appeared at a meeting with our governor Necmeddin Kılıç. By establishing such a center, we could fight academic and systematically with addiction. We immediately took action and put this Center in service for a short time. I believe that our center will do research that will provide more response in society as well as scientific researches. In the establishment of our headquarters, I thank everyone who has contributed to this process especially our governor Necmeddin Kılıç and our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nurcan Baykam, "
Apart from the routine activities of the university, the centers are one of the most active means of carrying out some activities in order to convey the accumulation of scientific knowledge with an NGO reflex, Dr Alkan said: "We care about our centers in this sense. The Addiction Prevention Center is our center for a topic that affects a very important segment of our society. In this sense, it stands out not only as scientific researches but also as a center that will give opportunity to do individual studies in the society. " At the same time, Dr. Alkan pointed out that addiction is not limited to tobacco and other substance use at the same time and that it has become compulsory to struggle with different addictions such as mobile phone and social media and that they will make efforts in this regard.
In the second part of the meeting, our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nurcan Baykam expressed that she believed that good and successful work would be achieved by emphasizing that the Center for Addictive Practice and Research Center will provide services in the light of academic and scientific data.
In addition to giving information about the Center, she also mentioned the projects to be carried out and future projects. Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emrah Karadere will try to determine the number of dependents in the province first and then try to reveal the reasons of dependence in the first place in the field of Fighting Against Dependence Application and Research Center and stated that "We aim to prevent the development of addiction in the society by the fact that the most effective way of combat with addiction is to eliminate these causes." Asst. Prof. Dr. Karadere added that he would also cooperate with the Çorum Anti-Drug Fighting Provincial Coordination Board in conjunction with the Fighting Against Dependence Application and Research Center.
