The consultation meeting for the Oncology Center planned to be established in science was held in the University Senate Hall.
Our Rector Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, AK Party Provincial Chairman Lawyer Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karadağ, Vice Rector Dr. Nurcan Baykam, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Mete Dolapçı, Provincial Director of Health Dr. Ömer Sobacı, Head of Surgical Medical Sciences Prof. Dr. Betül Bozkurt, Department of Internal Medicine, Professor. Dr. Meral Gülhan, T.R. Ministry of Health Hitit University Erol Olçok Education and Research Hospital Chief Physician Assoc. Dr. Çağatay Evrim Afşarlar and Head of Department of Medical Oncology Dep. Assoc. Dr. Kaan Helvacı attended the meeting and all aspects of the establishment of the Oncology Center in Çorum were discussed.
In the meeting, firstly Faculty of Medicine Dean Dr. Mete Dolapçı made presentations about the treatments and numbers by giving information about cancer statistics in Turkey. He said that the treatment of these diseases has become possible in Çorum thanks to Oncological diagnosis and treatment of qualified faculty members of the Faculty of Medicine, especially after the co-operation (afiliation) protocol signed between the Ministry of Health and Hitit University.
"For the operations performed in Çorum today before 2012, the patients were referred to Ankara or Istanbul. Cancer surgeries are performed in our hospital with high success rates, especially for breast and pancreas cancer operations. The chemotherapy phase is also carried out in Çorum after the operations. Radiotherapy and PET-CT imaging units are also given to Çorum. The Ministry of Health Hitit University Erol Olçok Education and Research Hospital will become an oncology center in the near future. Oncology experienced faculty members do not only have therapeutic roles, but they also educate their younger colleagues so that they can share the information necessary for the continuity of the service. Especially with the introduction of a new hospital, the possibilities of intensive care, radiology and operating room have become much better. With the establishment of Oncology Center, not only Çorum but also very important services will be provided to the region." said Dr. Dolapçı.
