TUBITAK Support for "HİTÜ Children's University"

In our university, the Childrens University project first started in 2016 with 40 children. The program, which was successfully implemented with the great efforts and dedication of the faculty members of our university, was repeated in 2017 with the participation of 60 children in line with the intensive demands. In 2018, it was supported within the scope of TÜBİTAK 4004 Nature Education and Science Schools Programs and third event was organized with tha attendance of 100 students. Therefore, the activity of the Childrens University has continued uninterruptedly for 3 years, accompanied by our expert academic and administrative staff. As in 2018, HİTU Childrens University Project was decided to be supported by TUBITAK in 2019.

The main purpose of our Childrens University Project is to improve the research culture of our children who are the future of our country, to reveal their feelings of curiosity by enabling them to be in scientific activities, and to contribute to the development of critical and constructive thought systems.

The specific objectives of the project are:

• Gaining scientific thinking techniques through experiments,
• Learning to analyze and synthesize the ability of observation,
• Development of critical thinking, creative thinking and common thinking skills,
• Progress in language skills and self-expression skills,
• Understanding the necessity of production for society, 
• Gaining awareness in career choice.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Reha Metin Alkan, who made a statement on the subject, stated that Childrens University enables the students to gain basic life skills such as scientific and critical thinking, questioning, curiosity and problem solving by performing,interacting and having fun in interaction with the university; the students met with the fun face of science and art at an early age thanks to this program.
