Department of International Relations Program Learning Outcomes


1. Learns aims, principles, methods of scientific research, gains the ability to conduct scientific research and develops its critical thinking skills.

2. Learns the basic concepts and terms of International Relations and also Sociology, Economics, History, Political Science and Law, which form the interdisciplinary structure of the program.

3. Comprehends the basic characteristics of the international sphere, the structure of the system, the main actors and customs in the system.

4. Analyzes the relations in the international system in the context of relevant theories.

5. Interprets past events within the context of International Relations concepts, theories and historical framework, evaluates current issues and develops arguments for the future.

6. Follows the historical development of political entities and societies, and objectively examines the historical ties between actors in the international system.

7. Makes multidimensional analyses on international politics and foreign policy. Discusses Turkey’s relations with surrounding regions and its place in the international system.

8. Investigates the legal dimension of international relations. Examines the similarities and differences between domestic law and international law.

9. Identifies problems, crises and opportunities in international relations, evaluates these situations from different perspectives, and makes critical analyzes.

10. Follows the developments in the international system, collects and interprets data and can share them verbally and in writing.

11. Produces original outputs by gaining the ability to carry out independent work, group work and using advanced computer / informatics knowledge.

12. Uses effectively at least one foreign language besides English for research to be carried out in the field of International Relations and studies further to improve the ability of expressing in a foreign language.

13. Follows the basic and current literature on international relations, learns the methods of reaching necessary visual, auditory and written sources, evaluates the quality of these resources.

14. Uses the acquired knowledge, skills and competencies in his/her professional life within the framework of ethical values, and reflects them on his/her life for the benefit of society.

15. Participates in activities which raise awareness about different cultural, religious, ethnic and national identities and interacts with people from other communities.
