Undergraduate students who win admission to the Hitit University Department of History complete their university registration through the e-Government (E-Devlet) system, after which they complete their course registrations at the beginning of the semester and commence their studies. Exemption exams are administered for common curriculum courses mandated by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), such as Foreign Language, Computer Sciences, and Turkish Language. Students who wish to take these exams and succeed are exempt from these courses in their undergraduate program. Similarly, students who have previously taken and passed these courses at another higher education institution are exempted upon submitting a formal petition.
Students enrolled in the History program do not take the Principles of Atatürk and History of Turkish Revolution (İnkılap Tarihi) course as part of the common freshman curriculum. Because the program provides specialized historical education, students take History of the Republic of Türkiye as a mandatory departmental course in subsequent years rather than as a common course. The Department of History complies with and implements the "Directive on Course Equivalency, Exemption, and Adaptation Procedures" enacted by the Hitit University Senate regarding course exemptions. You can access the relevant directive by clicking here.
Undergraduate students admitted to the Hitit University Department of History have the right to apply for lateral transfer (horizontal transfer) to any university of their choice. Likewise, students studying at other institutions may apply for lateral transfer to the Hitit University Department of History. Students wishing to transfer to our department can apply via their cumulative grade point averages (CGPA) or university entrance scores. Lateral transfer quotas are announced every semester on the departmental, faculty, and university websites.
Lateral transfers are limited to quotas determined by the relevant Board of Directors, and adaptation procedures are carried out by this board. The course contents and success statuses of courses previously taken by transfer students are examined by the Departmental Adaptation Commission, matched with equivalent courses, and students are subsequently registered for the required courses in the departmental curriculum. Consistency in course titles, credits, and contents is taken into account when evaluating courses and credits earned at other institutions and/or programs. Provided that it remains within the framework of legal regulations, the Adaptation Commission resolves problems concerning transfer students and handles course exemption procedures.
Students experiencing health issues or other special circumstances have the right to study as guest/special students at another higher education institution for specified periods or to study as special students within the Hitit University Department of History. Students coming to the Hitit University Department of History under this status select their courses in coordination with their academic advisors, and upon completion of their special student tenure, they transfer their earned credits to their home institutions to complete their graduation procedures.
