The Department of Chemical Engineering was established by the decision taken at the Executive Board meeting of the Council of Higher Education on 7 December 1999, upon the proposal of the Gazi University Rectorate dated 18 November 1999 and numbered 3321-13727. In accordance with the decision taken at the Executive Board meeting of the Council of Higher Education on 7 March 2000, following the Rectorate’s proposal dated 6 March 2000 and numbered 724-2971, the department admitted its first cohort of 25 students in the 2000–2001 academic year and commenced its educational activities. Since 2006, the Department of Chemical Engineering has continued to operate successfully within our University, which was officially established under the decision of the Council of Ministers and the Council of Higher Education and named Hitit University. The Department of Chemical Engineering is affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering at Hitit University, while the Division of Chemical Engineering operates within the Graduate School of Hitit University. The department currently employs 9 Professors, 7 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor,  1 Lecturer, 1 Research Assistant.

With a continuously updated curriculum, the department aims to equip students with nationally and internationally recognized professional knowledge and skills, to cultivate additional competencies necessary for the advanced practice of their profession, to engage in research activities, and to disseminate such work at both national and international levels, thereby contributing to scientific and technological development nationwide. In line with this mission, our faculty continues its efforts to improve the quality of education and training. The Department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees under the Chemical Engineering Program.

The Graduate School of Hitit University offers a master's program in Chemical Engineering, which admitted its first students in the Fall semester of the 2009–2010 academic year.

In our department, both the fall and spring semesters include a 14-week instructional period comprising one midterm examination, followed by a 2-week final examination period. The academic calendar applied each year is determined by the decision of the University Senate.
