The graduate program of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, conducted in coordination with the Hitit University Graduate School, maintains its academic activities in five fields of study: Modern Turkish Literature, Old Turkish Literature, Folk Literature, Modern Turkish Language, and Old Turkish Language. The department consists of 10 faculty members, including 1 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, and 2 Assistant Professors.
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature launched its graduate-level education in the fall semester of the 2018–2019 academic year. Beginning with 15 students in its first year, the program has expanded over time and currently continues its activities with 36 students.
The master’s program aims to train specialists capable of examining, researching, and evaluating the Turkish language—rooted in a long-standing historical tradition—and the literature produced in this language using scientific methods. The program seeks to educate scholars who can use Turkish effectively in both written and oral forms; who possess comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental concepts, works, and historical periods of Turkish language and literature; who have the ability to analyze primary sources; and who can employ contemporary theories and critical methodologies together with modern technologies to produce original academic studies grounded in ethical principles.
The program covers the scientific examination of all texts, works, documents, and linguistic phenomena related to Turkish—from the so-called “dark periods” of the language, which can only be traced through the sources of other civilizations, to the present day. Introducing, analyzing, and conducting scholarly work on materials produced in or related to Turkish throughout history constitutes the core scope of the program. Additionally, training qualified instructors and lecturers who can address the growing global demand for learning Turkish is also among its objectives.
While the program approaches Turkish Language and Literature as an integrated whole, students may choose courses and specialize in the fields of Modern Turkish Literature, Turkish Language, Old Turkish Literature, or Turkish Folk Literature according to their academic interests.
