History

The Department of Social Work was initially established on June 19, 2012, within the Hitit University School of Health. On March 15, 2017, the Social Work Division was formally structured.

Following a proposal from the Rectorate of Hitit University to the Council of Higher Education, the transformation of the School of Health into the Faculty of Health Sciences was approved by the Council of Ministers on May 14, 2018. Consequently, on July 6, 2018, the Department and Division of Social Work were restructured under the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The department officially began accepting its first students and started its academic programs with the approval of the Council of Higher Education on April 28, 2021.

General Information

The Social Work Department provides an education based on knowledge, skills, and values. In the first year, students take foundational courses such as Introduction to Social Work, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Law, Basic Information Technologies, Turkey’s Social Structure, Human Rights and Social Work, Career Planning, Social Problems, Statistics, and Field Observation in Social Work Settings.

From the second year onwards, students engage with courses focused on human behavior and social systems, including Social Work Theories and Approaches, Principles and Techniques of Report Writing in Social Work, Applied Research Methods, Human Behavior and the Social Environment, Social Policy and Planning, Social Work Legislation, Social Work with Individuals and Families, and Spiritual Social Work. Specialized courses in areas such as psychiatric, forensic, and school social work are also included.

In the third and fourth years, each student participates in practical training programs and block practice courses designed for hands-on experience in social work environments.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of the program can work as social workers or social service specialists in the central and provincial organizations of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Interior, and Ministry of Justice. Successful graduates may find employment opportunities in:

  • Childcare institutions, orphanages, and youth homes,

  • Foster care services and adoption counseling centers,

  • Nursing homes and elderly support centers,

  • Women’s shelters,

  • Disability care and rehabilitation centers,

  • Probation and assistance centers,
