A conference entitled ‘My First Lesson is Palestine’ was held at TBMYO

At the conference held on 22 October 2025 in the Ethem Erkoç Conference Hall at our Technical Sciences Vocational School, the humanitarian and global repercussions of the ongoing war in Gaza were discussed. The speaker at the conference, titled ‘My First Lesson is Palestine: Breaking the Silence on the Genocide in Gaza and Understanding Global Reactions,’ was Prof. Dr. Metin UÇAR.

The event began with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Faruk MARAŞLIOĞLU, Director of TBMYO. Prof. Dr. MARAŞLIOĞLU emphasised that, as an institution, they attach great importance to students being educated not only with professional knowledge but also with human and social awareness. Stating that the events in Palestine deeply affected the conscience of humanity, he drew attention to the importance of such events in raising awareness.

Prof. Dr. Metin UÇAR then took the stage and, in his speech, assessed the historical background of the ongoing war in Gaza, the humanitarian crisis in the region, and the reactions of the international community from an academic perspective. Uçar stressed the need to break the global silence, stating that the war is not only the responsibility of one region but of all humanity.

The conference was attended by a large number of students and academics. At the end of the programme, participants thanked Prof. Dr. Uçar for his speeches and asked questions on the subject.
