Mission

As the Department of Anthropology at Hitit University, our mission is to generate and disseminate comprehensive knowledge on human history, cultural diversity, and social transformations. By integrating the social, cultural, physical, and archaeological branches of anthropology through an interdisciplinary approach, we aim to:

Understand and explain universal human experiences and local identity structures,

Disseminate knowledge in collaboration with both academic and national/international stakeholders,

Conduct research that explores, preserves, and brings visibility to the cultural heritage of communities across Türkiye and around the world.

Our mission is grounded in strengthening our students’ critical thinking skills, enabling them to competently use scientific methodologies, and fostering their development as responsible and socially conscious individuals. We also aim to ensure that our students actively participate in cultural projects with public institutions, NGOs, and various organizations, thereby enhancing their anthropological perspectives through real-world engagement.

Vision

Our vision as the Department of Anthropology at Hitit University is to become a pioneering academic center that diligently trains future anthropologists, leads interdisciplinary research, and plays an active role in the preservation of cultural heritage at both local and global levels. The core pillars of our vision include:

Internationalization

Advancing our department’s standing within national and global anthropological networks through high-impact research published in international journals and collaborative scholarly partnerships.

Service to Society

Engaging communities in scientific processes and generating applicable results through fieldwork and projects that illuminate the past, shed light on the present, and encompass cultural richness—thereby fostering collective responsibility toward cultural heritage.

Contemporary Education and Training

Providing our students with a comprehensive and continuously updated educational experience through modern equipment, well-equipped laboratories, ethnographic workshops, and interdisciplinary symposia/congresses, as well as a globally oriented curriculum that emphasizes both theoretical and practical training.

Sustainable Research Network

Building and maintaining a dynamic research environment supported by national and international grant programs, conferences, and symposia.

Ethical and Responsible Anthropology

Upholding ethical standards at every stage of research, respecting the rights of participant communities, and maintaining a responsible scientific approach that meets the expectations of all stakeholders.

Guided by this vision, we continue our efforts to deepen cross-cultural understanding, elucidate the identity dynamics of societies, and sustain academic excellence in scientific knowledge production.

Our Core Values

Scientific Integrity

We are committed to evidence-based, impartial, reproducible, and verifiable knowledge at every stage of the research process.

Inclusiveness

We amplify the voices of the communities involved in our research and ensure that project outcomes contribute positively to their lives.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

By working in collaboration with fields such as paleontology, geology, history, archaeology, sociology, linguistics, and environmental sciences, we generate richer analyses and more comprehensive findings.

Digital and In-Person Education

We deliver high-quality education by effectively combining traditional anthropological methods with digital tools in both fieldwork and laboratory settings.

Real-World Impact

We translate academic research into social and cultural benefit through concrete collaborations with museums, cultural centers, local governments, and NGOs.
