Undergraduate students admitted to the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Hitit University complete their university registration through the e-Government system and begin their studies by registering for courses at the start of the academic semester. Exemption examinations are held for courses such as Foreign Language, Computer Skills, and Atatürk’s Principles and History of the Turkish Revolution, which are taught in accordance with the framework established by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Students may take these examinations and, if successful, be exempted from the relevant courses during their undergraduate studies. Similarly, students who have previously taken and passed these courses at another higher education institution may be granted exemptions upon submitting a formal petition.
Students enrolled in the Turkish Language and Literature programme do not take the Turkish Language course offered as a common first-year course at our university in accordance with the YÖK curriculum. Since the programme provides specialised education in Turkish Language and Literature, students do not take Turkish Language as part of the common courses. Instead, the History of the Turkish Language is included as a compulsory course in the programme in subsequent years.
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature complies with and implements the Directive on Course Equivalency, Exemption and Adaptation Procedures adopted by the Senate of Hitit University. You can access the relevant directive by clicking here.
Undergraduate students admitted to the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Hitit University are entitled to apply for horizontal transfer to other universities of their choice. Likewise, students enrolled at other institutions may apply for horizontal transfer to the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Hitit University. Students wishing to transfer to our Department may apply on the basis of their cumulative grade point average or university entrance examination scores. The available quotas for horizontal transfers are announced each semester on the websites of the Department, Faculty, and University.
Horizontal transfers are subject to the quotas determined by the relevant Board of Directors, which is also responsible for carrying out course adaptation procedures. The courses taken by transfer students in their previous programmes are reviewed by the Department’s Course Equivalency and Transfer Committee in terms of course content and academic performance. Courses deemed equivalent are matched with the corresponding courses in the Department’s curriculum, after which students register for the courses they are required to complete under the Department’s curriculum.
When evaluating courses taken and credits earned at other institutions and/or programmes, consideration is given to the consistency of course titles, credit values, and content. Within the framework of the applicable legislation, the Course Equivalency and Transfer Committee addresses issues encountered by transfer students and carries out procedures for exemption from courses.
