The undergraduate nursing program has been developed based on the “Classical Education Model,” one of the program types grounded in the structure of disciplines. The general characteristics of this education are as follows:

While structuring the Classical Education Model in the Department of Nursing at Hitit University Faculty of Health Sciences, developments aimed at meeting society’s health care needs at national and international levels were taken into account. In this model, nursing education is delivered both theoretically and practically. All courses are conducted by subject-matter expert instructors (faculty members and lecturers holding a PhD). Within this model, all professional courses (Fundamental Principles and Practices in Nursing, Internal Medicine Nursing, Surgical Nursing, Women’s Health and Obstetrics–Gynecology Nursing, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, Public Health Nursing, Nursing Management, Nursing Education) plan their content within the framework of the core concepts of person, health/illness, environment, and nursing, and are carried out using active learning methods—such as role-play, case discussions, video demonstrations, and Q&A—to support students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning.

Various nursing models and theories are utilized while delivering the professional courses: the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Model, the Functional Health Patterns Model, the Adaptation Model, the Interpersonal Communication Model and the Human-to-Human Relationship Model, the Model of Living, and the Omaha Classification System are the models used in the program. In clinical practice, for case management that incorporates the nursing process and is updated every two years, NANDA (North American Nursing Diagnosis Association) nursing diagnoses, NIC (Nursing Interventions Classification), NOC (Nursing Outcomes Classification), and the OMAHA classification systems are employed.
