Our faculty members from Urology department of the School of Medicine were the first to successfully carried out a prostate cancer surgery in our Training and Research Hospital with the laparoscopic method, popularly known as closed surgery.
A 58-year-old patient applied to Hitit University Erol Olçok Training and Research Hospital with a prostate complaint. As a result of the examination performed by Head of Urology Department of Faculty of Medicine Assoc. Dr. Murat Baykam and Assoc. Dr. Cemil Aydın Cemil Aydın, the patient was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Thereupon, Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy (surgery to remove all prostate tissue with closed) was performed by Assoc. Dr. Cemil Aydın.
Assoc. Dr. Cemlil Aydın also pointed out the importance of the Hitit University Faculty of Medicine Urology Department reaching a level that can perform prostate cancer surgery with laparoscopic method and said, “We are happy to have performed this difficult surgery that requires advanced laparoscopic skills and can be performed in certain centers in Çorum. It is an important achievement both for our university and for Çorum. "Having performed the first prostate cancer surgery with this method in Çorum is an important development in terms of the health services offered in our region."
Assoc. Dr. Baykam said: “Patients diagnosed prostate cancer, who do not want to undergo open surgery, had to go to big cities before. From now on, our patients will no longer have to go to big cities for these surgeries. We are in a position to offer this service here”.
Assoc. Dr. Cemlil Aydın pointed out that Urology Department of Hitit University Faculty of Medicine has reached a level that can perform prostate cancer surgery with laparoscopic method and said, “We are happy to have performed this difficult surgery in Çorum that requires advanced laparoscopic skills and can be performed in certain centers.
