Dear Rector,
As known, United States of America Presidency has made an irresponsible declaration about recognizing Al-Quds as the capital of Israel and relocating their embassy to Al-Quds. After this unfortunate declaration of the US, the member countries of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has held an extraordinary summit in Istanbul and pushing back against US declaration, the final communique recognized East Al-Quds as the capital of Palestine and called on the international community to do the same.
The communique said the OIC "rejects and condemns in the strongest terms the unilateral decision by the president of the United States of America recognizing Al-Quds as the so-called capital of Israel, the occupying power." The OIC urged the world to recognize East Al-Quds as the occupied capital of Palestine and invited “all countries to recognize the state of Palestine and East Al-Quds as its occupied capital”.
Sharing common cultural heritage and geography throughout the history, I see that we have an enormous responsibility to take action together to eliminate the effects of this disrespectful act as conscious and liable academicians. I believe that it is very important for us to unite as Muslim countries to show a common attitude against the declaration of the US. I believe you will best understand the importance of the situation as an academician and take the necessary steps in your country in the most appropriate way.
Al-Quds is holly and the eye of all Muslim World as it is the common heritage of all human beings. It is the red-line of the Islam. I strongly condemn the US President's unilateral decision recognizing Al-Quds as Israel's so-called capital, and I call you to take the concrete steps in your country with the responsibility to support the decision of the OIC as recognizing East Al-Quds as the capital of Palestine.
Best Regards,
Prof. Dr. Reha Metin ALKAN
Rector
