Special Admission Requirements

The student quotas to be admitted to the program, the required application documents, the application and examination dates, and any additional specific conditions—if applicable—are determined upon the proposal of the relevant Department Chair, the decision of the Institute Board, and the approval of the Senate.

Admission and Registration Requirements

To apply to the master's program, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or, if the degree was obtained abroad, must have a recognition (equivalency) certificate issued by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Candidates must have a minimum graduation GPA of 60 out of 100 or 2.30 out of 4.00. They must also obtain at least 55 standard points from ALES in the score type required by the program and must have taken one of the foreign language exams such as YDS or ÜDS.

For each admission period, the foreign language criteria are determined by the Institute Administrative Board upon the recommendation of the relevant department. Candidates who have taken international foreign language exams such as TOEFL or IELTS must have their scores converted to the YDS equivalent, provided that these exams are recognized as equivalent by YÖK.

In application evaluations, while the minimum ALES requirement is 55, the Senate may set a higher minimum ALES score. For admission to non-thesis master’s programs, the ALES requirement and the minimum ALES score are determined by the University Senate.

The number of candidates to be invited to the interview stage is limited to twice the announced quota of the program.

For ranking candidates prior to the interview, the following weighting is used:

  • 50% ALES score

  • 25% undergraduate GPA

  • 25% foreign language exam score

For calculating the final entrance exam success score, the following weights apply:

  • 50% ALES score

  • 20% undergraduate GPA

  • 10% foreign language score

  • 20% interview score

Candidates who receive less than 50 out of 100 in the written scientific evaluation and/or interview exam are considered unsuccessful. Candidates whose final calculated score is 50 or above, ranked from highest to lowest, are admitted within the quota.

Candidates who do not attend the written scientific evaluation and/or interview are not considered for evaluation.
