The opening of the Master’s Program in History was approved at the Meeting of the General Assembly of the Council of Higher Education dated 1 March 2013. The program admitted its first students in the Fall semester of the 2013–2014 academic year.
The academic staff of the Department of History consists of 2 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 8 Assistant Professors, and 1 Research Assistant with a PhD. The language of instruction is Turkish.
The main research areas of the department include Ottoman History, General Turkic History, Medieval History, Early Modern History, Modern History, History of the Republic of Türkiye, and Ancient History.
The primary objectives of the department are to apply and teach modern historical research and writing techniques; to enhance students’ skills in the use of historical sources; and to provide comprehensive approaches that help clarify historical periods, geographical regions, and complex historical issues.
Full time.
The main teaching methods of the program include lectures, seminars, and workshops. Assessment and evaluation methods vary by course; detailed information regarding examinations and assignments can be found in the Course Information Form of each course.
Master’s Degree.
Students who successfully complete the master’s program may apply to PhD programs in their own field or other related fields, provided that they obtain a valid score from ALES or an equivalent exam and meet the required level of foreign language proficiency.
A Bachelor's degree is recognized.
To graduate from this thesis-based master’s program, students must successfully complete at least 10 courses totaling 120 ECTS credits (30 national credits), as well as a seminar and a master’s thesis.
The seminar and thesis courses are non-credit and are evaluated on a Pass/Fail basis.
