About Us

The Department of Islamic History and Arts aims to examine the historical development of Islam from its emergence to the present and to study the major political, social, cultural, literary, and artistic developments that have shaped Islamic history. The department is dedicated to training scholars who possess the competence to conduct rigorous academic research, who are well-informed about the essential issues of the field, and who can generate solutions grounded in scholarly reasoning and ethical principles. It seeks to cultivate individuals who demonstrate critical inquiry, intellectual productivity, academic engagement, and a commitment to research excellence. In addition to Arabic and Ottoman Turkish, the department encourages the use of Western languages to support interdisciplinary academic studies.

Another key mission of the Department of Islamic History and Arts is to conduct research that contributes to the broader body of scholarly knowledge by examining Islamic history and civilisation in all its dimensions. Through these efforts, the department aims to produce and disseminate scientific findings and share them within the academic community, particularly at the graduate level.

The Department of Islamic History and Arts is composed of four academic divisions, listed alphabetically as follows:

2. Turkish Religious Music

3. Turkish-Islamic Literature

4. History of Turkish-Islamic Arts

The academic staff currently employed in these divisions consist of the following:
