Department of Islamic History and Arts

Mission

The mission of the graduate programs in the Department of Islamic History and Arts is to train qualified researchers who can study the historical development of Islam from its emergence to the present, together with the political, social, cultural, literary, and artistic transformations that have shaped this process, using rigorous scientific methods. The program aims to equip students with the ability to conduct academic research, address the theoretical and methodological issues of the field, and generate scholarly solutions. It also seeks to ensure that students internalise scientific reasoning, critical thinking, academic ethics, and intellectual productivity, while gaining the academic competence required to contribute to interdisciplinary studies by employing Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, and relevant Western languages.

The vision of the graduate programs in the Department of Islamic History and Arts is to become a leading academic center that examines Islamic history and civilization in all its dimensions, is recognized nationally and internationally, and contributes original scholarship to the field through its scientific research and publications. The program strives to advance academic knowledge related to Islamic history, culture, and art; to disseminate research outcomes within scholarly communities and society; and to foster a strong and sustainable academic environment that guides the future development of the field.
