The Minor Program is a program that allows students who meet certain requirements to take a smaller number of courses compared to the Double Major Program and obtain a minor certificate. The certificate obtained through the Minor Program does not replace a diploma. The main regulation regarding Double Major and Minor programs is the “Regulation on Transition Between Associate and Undergraduate Programs, Double Major, Minor, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions,” published in the Official Gazette No. 27561 on April 24, 2010.

According to this regulation, the Minor Program is defined as a program that allows a student enrolled in a degree program, provided they meet the specified conditions, to take a limited number of courses within another degree program at the same higher education institution, focusing on a specific subject, and obtain a certificate (minor certificate) that does not substitute for a diploma. Additionally, in line with the relevant provisions in our university’s “Associate and Undergraduate Education-Training and Examination Regulations,” a Minor Program Directive was issued on December 28, 2017.

The application requirements are arranged as follows in this directive:

Application and Admission Requirements:

  1. At the time of application, the student must have completed all courses in their major program up to the semester of application successfully.

  2. The student’s GPA at the time of application must be at least 2.50 out of 4.00. Additionally, to apply for the program, the student must be ranked among the top 20% of their class in the major undergraduate program.

  3. The student must not have received any disciplinary penalty.

  4. The student may apply at the beginning of the third semester at the earliest and the sixth semester at the latest of the major undergraduate program.

Applications to the Minor Program are submitted to the relevant faculty dean’s office with the application form and transcript on the specified dates.

The admission of students whose applications are deemed appropriate by the relevant department is finalized with the approval of the Unit Executive Board based on the department’s recommendation. The decision (along with its attachments) is sent to the Student Affairs Department. Successful students are announced, along with alternates, before the course registration renewal dates specified in the academic calendar.

Enrollment in more than one double major program at the same time is not allowed. However, it is possible to be enrolled simultaneously in a Double Major Program and a Minor Program.

Students who lose their status as minor students for any reason cannot reapply to the Minor Program or continue their minor studies.

Students admitted to the Minor Program must register on the course registration renewal days specified in the academic calendar or, in cases of valid excuse approved by the Unit Executive Board, no later than the add-drop period.
