Sustainable Life and City: Çorum Workshop
The “Sustainable Life and City: Çorum” Workshop was held on 20 February 2025 under the coordination of Hitit University with the participation of various stakeholder institutions. The main aim of the workshop was to assess the current situation of Çorum in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, develop policy and solution proposals consistent with sustainable development principles, and discuss how locally developed approaches could be scaled up more broadly.
Sustainability was addressed through an integrated framework covering economic, social, environmental and institutional dimensions. Through the contributions of representatives from the university, local government, public institutions, the private sector, and civil society, the workshop sessions examined the city’s existing potential, key challenges, strengths, and opportunities for development, while also generating practical policy and solution proposals.
The workshop was structured around seven main themes:
• No Poverty and Zero Hunger, Decent Work and Economic Growth
• Good Health and Well-being
• Quality Education
• Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
• Climate Action, Life Below Water, Life on Land, Clean Water and Sanitation, and Affordable and Clean Energy
• Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
• Sustainable Cities and Communities
The views, assessments and recommendations generated during the workshop were subsequently compiled into the publication entitled “Sustainable Life and City: Çorum – Workshop Final Report.” The report aims to provide a sustainability-oriented roadmap for Çorum while also contributing to the development of policies and practices that may serve as examples for other cities.
