5.3.1 Monitoring access measures

The number of students and academic staff is tracked according to their gender (female/male).

5.3.2 Policy for women's applications and admission

At our university, only the number of female and male students is measured. To increase the number of female students, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) announced on March 8, 2023, that a special quota has been designated for women over the age of 34 at state universities. This initiative aims to increase women's participation in universities. You can access the relevant policy via the link below.

5.3.3 Women's access programs

Our university implements programmes aimed at enhancing women’s access to education, social participation and economic opportunities. For instance, the “Women in Academia Networking Meeting” brings together female academics and institutional stakeholders to foster dialogue and networking. Additionally, the “Empowerment of Women” panel is organised to support awareness-raising, mentoring and strengthening of support networks for women. These initiatives aim to reinforce women’s roles in society and academia, expand equal opportunity, and make visible the support mechanisms dedicated to women.

Seven women who received education within Hitit University’s “Mother’s University” program later took the university entrance exams and became students of our university.

5.3.4 Women's application to areas where representation is low

Our University supports equal opportunities in fields where women are underrepresented and actively encourages female candidates to apply. In this context, various information campaigns, awareness activities, mentoring programs, and project initiatives are carried out to support the academic and professional development of women, particularly in STEM fields. By fostering an inclusive learning environment, our University aims to increase women's participation in these areas.

Science and Technology Festival Held Within the Scope of the "Women in STEM: Strong Tomorrows" Project

Hitit University has successfully implemented the “Women in STEM: Strong Tomorrows” project to enhance the participation of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. Within the scope of this project, scientific workshops, technological presentations, and experience-sharing sessions were organized, providing participants with the opportunity to meet successful role models in STEM. Through this initiative, the University sought to increase young people's interest in STEM and empower women to build strong futures in these fields.

The “Mother’s University” program at Hitit University empowered seven women to continue their education; they later took the university entrance exams and became enrolled students at our university.

5.6.6 Mentorship programs for women

The Hitit Mother University event, organized by the Hitit University Women and Family Issues Application and Research Center (HÜKAM), is a community service project initiated to provide mothers and prospective mothers with the opportunity to sit at university desks, with our expert academic staff in many areas of interest to women, from health and finance to literature and psychology, art and child development and family communication.

In this context, a workshop titled "Mothers and Future Mothers Meet" was held as part of the 2025 Year of the Family events. As part of the İŞKUR Youth Project, mothers who had previously studied at Hitit Mother University came together with female students from various departments at the university.

5.6.7 Monitoring the graduation rate of women

Our university systematically measures the graduation likelihoods for female and male students and develops strategic interventions to close any gender-based gaps. For example, through the institution’s evaluation system, the interface for graduated students enables monitoring of graduate numbers and gender distributions. This data infrastructure allows tracking of female students’ graduation rates compared with males and, when needed, implementation of support measures such as scholarships, mentoring programmes and other assistance services. In this way, the university contributes to promoting equal opportunities and improving gender balance in academic success.
