Cybercrime and Digital Security Training for Students Held in Çorum
As part of an event organized by the Sustainability, Social Responsibility and Professional Ethics Student Club within the scope of the Social Responsibility and Professional Ethics course, students from the Banking and Insurance Program at Hitit University's Vocational School of Social Sciences visited the Çorum Provincial Police Department's Cybercrime Unit on May 8, 2026. The program, aimed at raising awareness about digital security, contributed to students' understanding of cybercrimes, one of today's significant social and technological problems.
The training, held in the Cybercrime Unit's meeting room, provided comprehensive information on common online fraud methods, social media security, account security, personal data protection, phishing attacks, and basic security measures for digital environments. During the training, the risks students might encounter were explained through real-life examples, highlighting both the opportunities and threats brought by the digital world.
As part of the program, a presentation was given by police officer Serkan Bey from the Çorum Provincial Police Department, emphasizing the importance of individuals acting responsibly online. Participants were informed about suspicious links, fake websites, social media scams, and methods used by malicious individuals to steal personal information. Practical suggestions were provided on creating strong passwords, using two-factor authentication, and protecting personal data.
Throughout the training, students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the individual and societal dimensions of cybercrime. The importance of developing digital literacy skills and acquiring safe internet usage habits was highlighted in today's world, where technology has become an integral part of daily life. Through the program, students gained the opportunity to better recognize the threats they may encounter in digital environments and learn how to protect themselves against these threats.
