Zero Waste Vision in the Field: Social Sciences Vocational School Banking and Insurance Program Students Examine Recycling Processes On-Site

On April 9, 2026, students from the Social Sciences Vocational School, in collaboration with the Hitit University Sustainability, Social Responsibility, and Professional Ethics Student Club, implemented an exemplary activity to raise social awareness as part of their “Social Responsibility and Professional Ethics” course.

Within the framework of the “Don’t Throw Away, Recycle, Improve the World” project, prepared and coordinated by student Kübra Karslı, a technical field trip was organized to the Çorum Municipality Arel Environmental Waste Management Facility, located approximately 7 kilometers from the center of Çorum. In this event, in which theoretical knowledge was reinforced through field applications, students had the opportunity to observe environmental ethics and sustainability concepts firsthand.

During the technical inspection, conducted with the facility officials, all stages of the recycling processes were examined in detail. Participants observed the separation processes for mixed waste arriving at the facility on conveyor belts; they followed the baling and pressing of materials such as metal and paper in high-pressure machines. In addition, experts shared technical information on industrial raw material preparation processes.

This process highlighted the importance of waste management for both environmental sustainability and economic value creation. Kübra Karslı emphasized that the main aim of the study was to consider waste not as mere "garbage," but as a "resource" that should be brought back into the economy. This event, which combined social responsibility with professional ethics, showed that waste management is not just a technical process but also a civic responsibility. The highly productive technical trip was successfully completed in line with the motto "Don't Throw Away, Recycle, Improve the World."
